This page is information for channel operators. If you are reading this with purpose then it is likely that you are on the mailing list which is used for #SpiceChat administration. For example, adding ops, deleting ops, adding channel related features, things like this, all the beaurocratic crap. Nothing #SpiceChat related should be done without consulting and agreement of members of the mailing list. It is not a general purpose chat mailing list or anything like that, only #SpiceChat related issues. All ops are on this list. If you are not, please contact Char.
To send mail to this list for CHANNEL SPECIFIC things ONLY, (or else we'll kick your ass + plus you will be branded a fool by everone else here), the address is spicechat@yahoogroups.com This then goes to everyone on the list, you know how mailing lists work, if you don't, search engines exist.
Here are the administration rules as proposed and agreed upon by all channel operators as of and on December 23rd, 2000:
- When someone has a recommendation for a new op, they firstly have to be SURE of this person, and they had to have been in the channel for significant time, etc. The person can then start a poll through the mailing lists' website in the following format:
Suggested Op: nick
Why should be an Op: reasons
Thats it, simple enough. Set the poll to automatically close in three days. An email will automatically be sent to everyone on the mailing list telling them to vote on the matter. Votes will only be counted once per user, and after three days the result will automatically be sent to the mailing list.
- Dropping an op can be done in the same manner as recommending a new op, using the poll feature of the mailing list website. Specify the nick of the op to be removed, and reasons why they should be removed. You should be able to start a poll anonymously on the site so nobody will know that it is YOU who wants this person removed.
- Any other measures for changing rules in the channel, adding/deleting rules, anything, should be sent in the same format as for adding/removing an op to the mailing list, and will be determined with the same rules.
- Remember, everyone has three days to vote, there will be no consideration of votes of those who didn't vote after the poll closes.
- Determinance of whether a measure passes or fails is set as being 66.6%(2/3rds) of the votes. For example, if 66% of the votes are YES for a new op, it'll be successfull and the person will be opped.
- Adding an access point to #SpiceChat from someone's website & the effect of that on their Op-Status:
Initially it was thought "lets give ops automatically to whoever adds a #SpiceChat access point on their website." Further thinking brings up the thought that this could be quite shady, as well as not effective as random_person can make a website that sucks in 20 seconds and put the chat on it. It was voted on and determined that any website clocking 300+ hits/day (with proof, hits being dynamic visitors) who adds an access point, the webmaster automatically gets an op-request sent to the list.
- Any changes by anybody to the official #SpiceChat website should be reported to this mailing list by the person making the changes. Please propose any significant changes to the mailing list before doing them.
